I was thinking of a way to get US, European and Japanese saves to work on Wiis from different regions. Perhaps if we had 3 save files for the same game, at the same point in the game (probably at the start, just as you make a save file, to make it easy) but from different regions, so we could compare them and figure out how to edit them to get them to work on different regions.

So what I need are save games for Zelda. Backup your existing file to your PC in a safe place, delete the file on your Wii and start up Zelda. Make a new game on the first save slot with the default names ("Link" and "Epona"), turn off the game during the very first cutscene and upload the save file. Give the link to the save file in this thread along with your region. Then we can compare save files of different regions and see if we can get them to work with foreign Wiis.

    Is this a good idea?

I dont think that would work for 2 reasons. First you would have to have the same time on each game and second if you had all 3 types of the same save what would be the point of converting it. You may find some similarity if you did the test with multiple games. I would like to find out your results. I can get you the US save.

Tried this exact thing a while ago - didn't work because each Wii or at least each game from different regions have encryption keys - plus the files could never be identical because of timestamps.

Not saying that the concept of a save region converter isn't possible, but... more difficult than the solution that this exact method would solve.

in my opinion. you would have to take out the entire wii itself for this to work so if you don't mind screwin with your wii by all means, take out the screw & hammer

Why would he need a hammer?

To bash it in with frustration after he realizes that a) his idea won't work and b) he screwed up his wii because he didn't know what he was doing in the first place
